There’s no use in denying it – Apple’s devices are some of the most popular gadgets in the world, but also some of the most expensive ones. With this mind, many users turn to obtaining iPhones and iPads through unofficial channels, rather than Apple’s retail stores, because they offer better prices. However, buying an iOS device at a more affordable price does come with some risks – you never know whether its locked to another user. If it is, this means that it’s probably been stolen.
In order to prevent these things from happening, Apple has launched a new Activation Lock tool which allows its users to check whether or not their iPhone/iPad is the real deal. You can get the tool via iCloud, and all you have to is enter your device’s IMEI or serial number, and then let Apple’s system do the rest of the work. If the Activation Lock has been enabled, the website will inform you that you need to enter an Apple ID and password in order to activate your device. It also gives you instructions on how to remove the Activation Lock, but to do this, you’ll need to contact the previous owner.
Activation Lock was introduced with iOS 7, and has received high praises since then, and helped reduce the amount of smartphone-related theft. So, if you are planning on purchasing a used iOS device, you’ll find this tool extremely useful, because it can be used before a transaction ever takes place. 🙂
